Zhongnan online, March 13——On the morning of March 13, the opening ceremony of the 9th Chinese Culture immersion class from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) was held in WUT. Altogether 91 teachers and students participated in the current culture immersion class. The deputy president of WUT professor Wang Yuanzhang and the president assistant and dean of School of International Education professor Peng Yuanjie attended the opening ceremony.
On behalf of WUT, the deputy president professor Wang Yuanzhang expressed a warm welcome to teachers and students from NP. He reviewed the history of the exchange between the two schools and gave a brief introduction to the school characteristics and overview of international development. Besides, he encouraged the students to experience the campus atmosphere and get a comprehensive understanding of the Chinese social life, history and culture. At last, he wished the immersion class a success and hoped the teachers and students have a wonderful time in China.
Mr. Wang from NP presented a speech and expressed thanks to the thoughtful arrangement and warm reception of WUT. He hoped students of NP could have a fruitful trip to China.
In order to integrate students from NP into campus life in WUT, School of International Education commissioned the students from Translation Association in School of literature, Law and Foreign Language to communicate with students from NP in pairs. In this way, an exchange platform for sino-foreign students could be set up to provide help to students from NP in life and study.
According to WUT’s arrangement, in more than one month Singapore college students will learn Chinese history, geography, traditional thought and culture, Business Development and other courses. They will visit Yellow Crane Tower, Wudang Mountain, the three gorges and other places of interests. Moreover, some activities will be held to build friendship between students of the two schools.
Mr. Wang form NP said: “China and Singapore are friendly neighboring countries. China is one of the four ancient civilizations. By coming to WUT to learn Chinese language, Chinese history, geography and other Chinese culture, the students can know China’s 5000 years’ splendid civilization, inspect the development process of Chinese universities and broaden their horizons.”
Shi Huali and Tidy are two female sophomores majoring in public communication. They said: “We’re delighted to come to China. We can learn Chinese history and culture, make Chinese friends and learn something that can’t be learnt at home.”
Since September 2008, Chinese culture immersion class for NP has been held 9 times. It has become the bridge for cooperation and communication between the two schools and the window for students of both sides to know each other. WUT has established friendly and cooperative relations with NP for many years and every year NP sends about one hundred teachers and students to WUT to learn.
It’s reported that WUT has built broad exchange and cooperative relations with many famous universities in Japan, USA, Korea, Thailand and other countries. It carries out a variety of ways to train personnel such as exchanging students, upgrading college students to university students, upgrading bachelor to master, going abroad for paid internship and so on. It has sent more than 1,000 students to study further abroad. At the same time, it admits foreign students to come to exchange.
