School of Information Engineering consists of 9 four-year programs in Intelligent Science and Technology, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Automation, and Electrical Engineering and Its Automation, and 3 three-year programs in Electromechanical Integration, Computer Networking Technology and Digital Media Technology. There are over 2,500 undergraduates in the school at present. In 2012 and 2013, Software Engineering and Electronic Information Engineering have been listed in the four-year programs of talent training plan towards emerging industries of strategic importance in universities in Hubei respectively. The school has also become the Secretary of the Robotics Industry Alliance in Hubei.
 
The school has superior faculty of over 120 teachers, including 18 professors, 27 associate professors and senior engineers, and all the teachers under 35 years old have master’s degrees or doctor’s degrees. Among them the senior engineers are all from 985 universities or 211 Universities, such as Wuhan University, Huangzhong University of Science and Technology, and Wuhan University of Technology. They form the backbone of the school together with those professional and aggressive young teachers.
 
The teachers in this school have been the principal investigators and collaborators of over 20 provincial or university’s scientific research projects, and published over 300 research papers, among them more than 40 papers are included in the four international journal searches (SCI, SSCI, EI, ISTP). Besides, more than 60 textbooks compiled and revised by our teachers have been published, including 2 “11th Five-Year” National Planning Textbooks for General Higher Education and 4 “12th Five-Year” Ministerial Planning Textbooks.
 
The independent building of the school has an area for teaching and office of more than 16,000 square meters among which 6000 square meters are used for laboratories, large enough for over 2,000 students to experiment and practice at same time. The school has set up more than 50 professional laboratories, Intelligent Robot Innovation and Practice Base, 3D Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Base, Electronic Design Innovation Practice and Competition Training Base, Mathematical Modeling Innovation Practice and Competition Training Base, Development and Innovation Experimental Base for Mobile Internet Terminal Equipment( Mobile Phone, etc. ), and Oracle Engineering Practice Education Center. They provide a good environment for the cultivation of innovative talents.
 
The school attaches much importance to the research and practice of teaching approaches. With regard to the features of specific majors and courses, the school carries out reforms in teaching modes and teaching methods, and fully motivates students to learn actively and innovatively to improve their learning ability. Besides, more than 20 practice bases out of college are established to provide favorable environment for students to improve their practical abilities. Furthermore, various professional qualifications training programs are offered to students in the university, which is beneficial for students to improve their ability to meet the working requirements.
 
Over the past 6 years, students in the school have taken part in competitions and contests like National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, and National Undergraduate Network Technology Competition, and achieved excellent results. Nearly 300 of them have won 1 national first prize, 4 national second prizes, a lot of provincial prizes in National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, 1 national first prize, many provincial prizes in National Undergraduate Network Technology Competition, and 6 national prizes, 15 national prizes and many national third prizes, and provincial prizes in National Information Technology Application Contest.
 
The school has organized fruitful social practice activities of students in summer holidays. Thus, it has been awarded Provincial Excellent Social Practice Team twice, National Excellent Volunteer once, and Provincial Excellent College in Ideological and Political Work once.
 
The school has cooperated with many professional companies at home and abroad to engage students in certification training. Therefore, a number of students get the senior or intermediate Certificates for Professional Certification, thus become much competitive in the talent market. Adhering to the educational philosophy of the university and promoting the reform of teaching actively, the school has shown distinctive professional characteristics, bringing about a steady graduate employment rate of over 92%, an increasing rate of admissions to the civil service, and a dramatic increase in quality of employment.
 
To further enhance the quality of talent cultivation, the school has set up a “2+2” talent cultivation mode, that is, students study at the school for the first two years, and then go abroad to study at the cooperative universities in other countries for the rest two years. In this mode, they can get both the certificates of the university and the overseas university, which makes it possible for them to find a job abroad. The school has endeavored to create opportunities and built a solid foundation for students, and has at the same time encouraged its students to apply for postgraduates at the universities in other countries. In recent years, a number of students of this school have worked for master’s or doctor’s degrees in prominent universities in the U.S., Britain, Australia, Japan, etc. Our graduates have also got admission to postgraduate study at China’s prominent universities in increasing numbers.s
